THE LAST AVATAR

             In a cloudless summer
towards the end of the afternoon
             one small cloud appears —
          avant-coureur of massifs
          piling behind the mountains.

             The cloud is shapeless —
          but gradually begins
             to stretch out and thin
          until it becomes a child's
sketch of the human figure —

             both male or female,
          pausing...until finally
             elongated in the winds
of space, to create the last
          avatar — a skeleton.
