THEATRES OF MOONSET

              Low down upon dawn's
          southern mountains — giant moon
              solemnly sinking

              its golden badge on
          still-dark southern skies, outshines
              our less tranquil globe.

              Sublime heavenly
          indifference to this earth's
              inhuman follies —

old gold on mauve mists —
          looming moon, silent, still clings
              to dark cliffs of space.

              One last slow fade out...
mourning, veiled in sands of time
              plunged in depths of dew

              last fading imprint
          of ever-darkening gold...
              Sudden vanishment

              plunged into blank day's
          brightening backdrop — footlights
              of another star
